We are proud to announce that Communication Federal Credit Union is joining the first-ever CU on the Run: a quarter marathon challenge where Oklahoma credit unions unite to engage with our communities and carry on the memory of the colleagues we lost.
CU on the Run is more than a race. It’s an opportunity to come together, honor the lives lost in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, and raise funds for the Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation. For CFCU and our fellow credit unions, this event is deeply personal and deeply meaningful.
💙 Why We Run
In the wake of unimaginable tragedy in 1995, when Federal Employees Credit Union lost eighteen employees, three members, and its entire physical office in the Oklahoma City bombing, something remarkable happened. Within just 48 hours, 22 credit unions – including Tinker Federal Credit Union, which offered a temporary location – stepped in to provide support. Volunteers from across the credit union movement helped rebuild operations, restore records, and keep member service going. It was a powerful reminder that credit unions don’t just compete, they show up for each other.
That same cooperative spirit lives on in CU on the Run. Just as credit unions once stood together in our darkest hour, today we unite again – not out of tragedy, but to honor it. This race is a reflection of our shared values: people helping people, standing together in solidarity, and always moving forward with purpose. We run to remember the employees of Federal Employees Credit Union whose lives were cut short, and to reflect on the legacy they helped build.
🏅 How It Works
Participating credit unions enter teams of four runners in the OKC Memorial Quarter Marathon. Each team chips in toward a shared donation to the Memorial Foundation. After race day, team finish times are compared – and the stakes go beyond bragging rights. Each credit union donates more based on how many minutes they trail behind the winning team. It’s a fun, spirited way to raise even more for a cause that matters to us all.
We’re proud to represent Communication Federal Credit Union in this inaugural challenge. Whether we finish first or last, we run with purpose, with pride, and with a deep respect for those we honor along the way.
